About This Cause
Arts Commons (Calgary Centre for Performing Arts) is a registered charitable organization, acknowledged as one of three greats arts centres in Canada. Occupying the majority of a full city block in the heart of Calgary, Arts Commons is a key contributor to the social, economic, cultural and intellectual life and well-being of the citizens of Calgary. Arts Commons welcomes over 600,000 visitors a year and is financed by tickets sales and other earned income, contributions from government, and community support through corporate sponsorships, foundation partnerships, philanthropic gifts from corporations and individuals, and special events. As a leader in arts, culture, education and community engagement in Alberta, Arts Commons has three primary accountabilities: 1. Arts Commons plays a critical role in the sustainability of six resident companies and partners, in addition to 180+ other organizations by maintaining the complex's 560,665 gross square feet of space that houses six performance venues, rehearsal halls, shops, a variety of public engagement spaces and administrative spaces. Furthermore, Arts Commons leads a series of lifecycle and major capital initiatives to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability of the complex. 2. Arts Commons is a major presenter of the performing arts in Canada. Under the banner, Arts Commons Presents, our series include the renowned BD&P World Music Series, National Geographic Live, PCL Blues Series, TD Jazz Series and a host of other single engagements. 3. Arts Commons' arts education programs serves thousands of students annually, and through a variety of innovative initiatives makes the arts more accessible.
