About This Cause
The Calgary Pregnancy Care Centre is now Mainsprings Pregnancy and Family Support. In operation since 1984, Mainsprings is a registered non-profit agency dedicated to providing comprehensive support and assistance to pregnant individuals and families navigating the journey of parenthood. Our mission centers on offering compassionate care, education, and resources to empower individuals facing the challenges and joys of pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenting. Mainsprings is committed to fostering a supportive environment where individuals can access practical assistance, emotional support, and educational programs tailored to their unique needs. Whether through prenatal classes, counselling services, material assistance, or community referrals, Mainsprings strives to ensure that every individual receives the care and support necessary to make informed decisions and thrive as they embark on their parenting journey. At its core, Mainsprings Pregnancy and Family Support is driven by the belief that everyone has value and deserves support. It is dedicated to providing inclusive, nonjudgmental support to all who seek our services. By promoting holistic well-being and empowering individuals to build strong, healthy families, Mainsprings endeavours to make a positive and lasting impact in the lives of those it serves and in the broader community. Mainsprings offers a variety of programs, services, and events aimed at promoting the well-being of both parents and children. Here's an overview of what Mainsprings Pregnancy and Family Support offers: • Pregnancy Support - For individuals facing crisis pregnancies or unexpected pregnancies, Mainsprings offers free pregnancy tests, counselling, options education, and practical support to help individuals make informed decisions about their pregnancies. • Materials Program - We provide material assistance to families in need, including essential baby supplies such as maternity and baby clothing (to age 2), and other baby items (as received through our physical donations program). • Classes – We offer a variety of classes (facilitated and led by volunteers) throughout the year – either online, in person or a hybrid format. we are always looking for ways to provide parenting help for our clients. This is the current list of classes being offered in 2024: o Prenatal o Financial Literacy o Proactive Parenting o Postpartum Planning o Mothering Together in Canada o Baby’s First Year o LENA Start (building a baby’s brain through talk) o Mother Goose Rhyme Time o Mom Life o New Beginnings Parenting Program (FESA) -classes available on demand (for court or Children’s Services) o Dad Lab – covers a variety of fathering-specific topics. o Dad Zone – Baby’s first year - newborn care for dads BY dads. • Support Groups – We have volunteers who are available to lead support groups such as Birth Moms (for those who have chosen to place their child for adoption). • Referral Services – Our client services staff (and volunteers as they are trained) can assist clients with referrals to additional community resources and support services. • Emotional Support – We offer various ways for clients to reach out – phone support, our text line, email and our 24-hour helpline. • Peer Support – Our client services staff and trained volunteers provide one-on-one support and advocacy for our clients as they circumnavigate their parenting journey. • Community Education – “Take Charge @ School” – These are workshops taught in the classroom to help teens navigate pressing questions regarding sex, relationships and dating. (These are facilitated by trained staff.)
