Canadian Mathematical Society - Advancing the discovery, learning and application of mathematics in Canada since 1946. We are a non-profit charitable society of mathematics professionals in academia, government and the private sector sharing a passion for mathematics research, teaching, problem solving and community.
About This Cause
Canadian Mathematical Society - Advancing the discovery, learning and application of mathematics in Canada since 1946. We are a non-profit charitable society of mostly Canadian mathematics professionals in academia, government and the private sector sharing a passion for mathematics research, teaching, problem solving and community. We bring together mathematics students, educators and researchers to our national conferences two or more times per year. Some of our conferences are international meetings such as with the Mathematical Congress of the Americas. We also bring people together electronically through our online initiatives. We promote excellence in mathematical teaching, recognizing educators annually who are making a significant impact in Canada. We hold events such as the Canadian Math Education Forum for educators to learn best new practices and to foster a national community in a country where education is mostly a provincial matter. Our national and international mathematical problem solving competitions help to encourage "play" with mathematical concepts and fluency applying mathematics to problem solving more generally. We select and coach the team of top secondary students who represent Canada at the International Mathematics Olympiad. We also publish CRUX Mathematicorum online and in print which is an internationally-respected problem solving periodical for advanced students, educators and mathematical recreation. The Canadian Mathematical Bulletin and the Canadian Journal of Mathematics are both peer-reviewed, pure mathematics research journals that we publish both online and in print. They are carried worldwide by academic libraries and provide high citation rates.
