Mission Statement

Hamilton Right to Life (HRTL) is a not-for-profit organization committed to the principle that God is the author of life, and that each human life has intrinsic value and should be revered and protected from conception to natural death. The HRTL mission is to educate and promote these positions while encouraging people to recognize and affirm the sanctity of human life.

About This Cause

Hamilton Right to Life (HRTL) is an educational, not-for-profit, non-political and non-denominational organization that began our journey in 1973 to promote life from conception to natural death. We are a small grassroots organization with a sensitive, yet impactful, mission of pro-life. Our volunteer Board of Directors oversee all activities, being a working Board giving leadership to planning and implementation of our promotion strategies. We also have two part-time staff who support the Board of Directors in day-to-day operations. BECOME A MEMBER TODAY, with your gift of $30. Many donors are very committed and generous giving additional gifts of $100 to $1,000 and more, to help HRTL create awareness in our community of a culture of love and hope. Donors’ support allows HRTL to share our message of LIFE through education, promotions and advertising in the Greater Hamilton Area, using many media platforms including: billboards, radio ads, bus shelters, and the Hamilton Spectator newspaper. This advertising outreach requires large funds, so we appeal to you to support HRTL. We educate our Members and Donors (Corporate, Service Clubs, Family Foundations and Individuals) through our Quarterly Newsletter which provides information on current Life issues, and events hosted by HRTL such as: the Ancaster Fair hosting a Display Booth (Fall), March for Life in Ottawa (May), Ecumenical Candle Light and Prayer Vigil commemorating the 1988 “No Abortion Law” in Canada (January), Respect Life Dinner (Fall) with special Guest Speaker, Baby Bottle Campaign (Spring, asking individuals and families to fill baby bottles with their coins and donations). Movie “Unplanned”: We recently hosted an evening event showing this inspiring movie, based on the true story of one woman’s journey of transformation. The movie chronicles Abby Johnson’s journey from Pro-Choice Planned Parenthood Clinic Director to a Pro-Life Leader. “Never trust a decision you don’t want your mother to know about.” Abby Johnson said these words referring to her decision to abort the child in her womb. Check out our website for a short video highlighting this movie. We also have copies of the movie to loan out to show to groups, Churches and individuals. Plus copies of Abby’s book available for sale. Due to COVID-19, we have hosted a number of online events, discussing key issues, such as Government of Canada Bills C-7 and Bill C-233. Canada’s Bill C-233, Sex-Selective Abortion: Bill C-233 strived to make sex-selective abortions a criminal offence. The Bill was defeated in Parliament June 2, 2021. This means that an unborn child can be aborted based on their sex. With the bill being defeated it goes against the results of the polls below. Oftentimes it’s girls who are unwanted and aborted. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all unborn girls were loved and nurtured? Let’s keep praying and continue to speak up for those without a voice. God is good and He sees all our efforts. We pray for those involved in the culture of death and darkness to see the light. - 2019 Dart & Maru/Blue poll reported 84% of Canadians oppose abortions conducted on the basis of an unborn child’s sex. - 2012 Angus-Reid poll reported 60% of Canadians would like to see legislation on sex-selection abortion. - 100,000 unborn lives are lost to abortion each year in Canada. Canada’s Bill C-7, MAID expanded (Medical Assistance in Dying): On June 17, 2021, we held an online presentation, led by Teresa Hartnett, Director, Family Ministry, Diocese of Hamilton, and hosted by Dora Giammaria, President, HRTL. Teresa gave an insightful presentation on Bill C-7 that has expanded the eligibility criteria for those seeking euthanasia and assisted suicide. No longer is it required to be terminally ill. We are on a slippery slope. People who are vulnerable are at risk of being encouraged to end their lives. Since 2016 13,000 individuals have died by lethal injection. Only 30% of Canadians have access to quality palliative care. These lives matter! We need assisted living, not assisted death. We must promote the dignity of life. Please visit our website to view the recorded presentation. Imagine Life without abortion or euthanasia. Let us protect life from the womb to the tomb. Life is a gift. Let’s not throw it away. Let’s create opportunities for discussions about the intrinsic value of all life: born and unborn, young and elderly, able and disabled. Educating our Youth: Many local Churches, Schools and Associations (such as the Knights of Columbus), participate in supporting HRTL with awareness events and financial gifts. We encourage Churches and Schools to join in our walk of caring for women faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Consider the teenage girl who finds herself pregnant and nowhere to turn. Help us give her the time and support to consider her options, other than an abortion. With support and a safety network she may consider keeping her child or make the loving decision to give her child to a family through adoption. So many couples are wishing for a family and searching for their forever child, yet for many the route of adoption is their only option. We want to share our message of hope to our children and teens, so they know in the future they can choose life, rather than death, for their unborn child. If you are part of a club or school, please consider how you can share the message of life and hope. We have a set of fetal models that can be loaned out, showing the development stages of the unborn child within the womb. We have found sharing these beautiful and miraculous development images can open up the door to meaningful, pro-life conversations and awareness. Some Facts: - 300 women undergo an abortion every day in Canada - 15 vulnerable Canadians will die every day, with help from a doctor through Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) - 78% of women who have abortions don’t know about the support that’s available to empower them to choose life. - What do Canada, China and Russia have in common? All provide abortions on demand. Please consider joining HRTL by making a donation today. You will become part of a movement to stand up for Life, to build a culture of love and hope, helping families and individuals choose LIFE for the unborn, elderly and disabled.
