About This Cause

Birds Canada’s vision is that the wild birds of Canada thrive in sustainable ecosystems. We aim to achieve this vision through our mission, to conserve wild birds of Canada through sound science, on-the-ground actions, innovative partnerships, public engagement, and science-based advocacy. Birds Canada is the leading charitable organization for bird science and conservation in Canada. Our programming focuses on bird research, Citizen Science, bird and wildlife population monitoring, on-the-ground conservation initiatives, innovative wildlife research, environmental partnerships, data management, and mapping services for multiple programs, and outreach and education. Birds Canada is a strong partner in BirdLife International, the world’s largest conservation alliance for nature and people. Birds Canada maintains the country's National Data Centre on birds, which houses information and provides mapping and analysis from over 50 international, national and regional bird research and monitoring initiatives including the Motus Wildlife Tracking System, the world’s most ambitious bird tracking initiative. We coordinate large-scale Citizen Science programs such as Christmas Bird Count, Great Backyard Bird Count, Marsh Monitoring Program, Project FeederWatch, eBird Canada, Canadian Lakes Loon Survey, and multiple provincial-scale Breeding Bird Atlases which help Canadians to understand, appreciate and conserve Canada's wild birds.
