About This Cause

Milton Community Resource Centre (MCRC) is a multi-service, charitable not for profit organization serving Milton and the Halton community for over 25 years. We hold true to our mission statement that, MCRC will empower all citizens of Halton’s diverse community by providing programs and supports that are high quality, inclusive, accessible, and affordable, aimed to address the impacts of poverty and inequity. MCRC's Empowerment Programs are free, accessible programs and services designed to meet the unique needs of girls and women; including the Infant Food Bank, Period Power Initiative, and She Can! girls’ empowerment programs. These programs are free, accessible, and designed to level the playing field and ensure all citizens have fair and equitable access to services and supports that will boost their trajectory of success. MCRC's Infant Food Bank (IFB) supports populations that are vulnerable to negative health and social outcomes by providing food security to Milton families with children under 3 years of age. Since 2007, MCRC has worked collaboratively with Milton Salvation Army to support our community and currently supports approximately 156 infants monthly with 80% of their essential needs of infant food, diapers, cereal, and formula. MCRC’s IFB provides more than just singular access to infant food and supplies, we also incorporate the framework for EarlyON Child & Family Centres focusing on early learning and development, engaging parents/caregivers, and making social connections for families. MCRC aims to enhance the mental and physical well-being of all individuals who menstruate. The Period Power Initiative is dedicated to promoting equity by ensuring free access to menstrual products for those in our local community who are experiencing financial challenges though our Infant Food Bank program. Over the years, MCRC has become acutely aware of the negative impacts of gender inequality and developed the She Can! Girls Empowerment Programs in response. These programs are free, accessible, and designed to meet the unique needs of girls (inclusive of trans and cisgender girls) and non-binary youth in our community. Our programs empower and uplift girls fostering strength, leadership, and resilience through hands-on activities and thought-provoking discussions. She Can! programs provide girls, regardless of financial status, culture, or sexual identity, with a place where they are free to be themselves and use their voice. MCRC offers a variety of She Can! programs addressing the unique challenges girls face in today's world. MCRC is proud to have achieved accreditation from the Imagine Canada Standards Program along with officially certified as a Great Place to Work!
