Mission Statement

To relieve and prevent unemployment among Aboriginal people in Winnipeg, and help them to achieve self-sufficiency by providing education and training, employment services, and support programs, such as counselling, daycare, and housing; and To do all such things ancillary and incidental to the attainment of the above purpose.

About This Cause

Our vision at CAHRD is for Indigenous people in Winnipeg to have a future of economic prosperity and self-sufficiency. We support this endeavour by offering a host of employment services, including career counselling, skills assessment, and job placements. Still, our clients often require job readiness upgrading and skills development before they can enter the workforce, so we offer three levels of programming. We use a laddered teaching approach, first building literacy and numeracy skills, then mature education upgrading, followed by technical/vocational training. However, students often encounter obstacles that threaten their ability to stay focused and engaged in school. Therefore, CAHRD also provides a variety of support services to increase the odds of success including subsidized infant and preschool daycares, counselling/referral services and student housing.
