At RMHSWO, we strengthen families and promote healing when children need healthcare. We imagine a world where every family has the resources to ensure the best outcomes for their children, and we are committed to caring for families when they need it most.
About This Cause
Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario (RMHSWO) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families of children receiving urgent medical healthcare. We provide comforting spaces, essential services, and emotional support so families can focus on what matters most—the health and well-being of their child. Our Locations (Family Stays): Ronald McDonald Family Stay London® at London Health Sciences Centre (6th Floor), opened in 2012, offers caregivers a place to rest, shower, or recharge just steps from their child’s hospital room. Ronald McDonald Family Stay Windsor® at the Met Campus, Windsor Regional Hospital, opened in 2016 as Canada’s first “House-within-a-Hospital.” This home-away-from-home keeps families close while their children receive urgent medical healthcare. Impact & Programs: Family Support: Hundreds of families are supported each year through our Family Stays in London and Windsor. Accommodation & Amenities: Families receive private rooms, meals, laundry services, and a supportive community. Emotional Relief: Proximity to the hospital and a nurturing environment reduces stress and anxiety. Cost Savings: Families save significantly on hotel, meals, and other out-of-pocket expenses during hospital stays. Yearly Impact: Approximately $4.7 million in savings for families annually, supporting roughly 40 families per night and 1,460 family-nights at full capacity. Additional Programs: Mental health supports, meal service, laundry facilities, pet therapy, family activity nights, birthday and holiday celebrations, caregiver support, and more. Global & National Reach: RMHSWO is part of Ronald McDonald House Charities, a global organization supporting families in over 60 countries and tens of thousands of families across Canada, saving millions annually. Community-Funded & Growth-Focused: RMHSWO relies heavily on generous donations, corporate partnerships, employee giving through payroll deductions, and matching gift programs. Despite our impact, many families still lack access to this support, highlighting the urgency for national expansion. Our Promise: We take care of all the little things so families can focus on the most important thing—their child’s care and well-being.
