Mission Statement
The mission of the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County is to improve the quality of life of persons living with dementia, and care partners, through the provision of support services, education, social programs, and research support.
About This Cause
The Alzheimer Society has a rich tradition of support in Simcoe County. Founded in 1985, the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County is a registered charitable organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. It is committed to providing the highest quality programs and services to support its vision of seeing people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias live well and thrive in their community. The Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County (ASSC) offers a variety of education programs for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, their care partners, health care professionals and the public. First Link® care navigation and supportive counselling services are available to people living with dementia, and care partners. Care partner support groups provide an opportunity for family members and friends of people living with dementia to meet others who are experiencing the same journey. Social/recreational programs provide opportunities for people living with dementia, and their care partners to socialize with others in dementia-friendly environments, all while taking steps to maintain brain health. ASSC relies on the generosity of the community to achieve over 40% of funding needs year over year. Funding is provided through donations, grants, and ongoing fundraising activities. Funding from Ontario's Ministry of Health helps to support the Alzheimer Society's education and public awareness programs, support services and social/recreational programs but is simply not enough to meet the growing needs in our community. It is estimated that there are 10,006 people living with dementia in Simcoe County, and more than 20,000 others who are affected directly or indirectly by the disease. These numbers are growing at an alarming rate. We appreciate and thank you for your support.
