Mission Statement
Inspire communities across BC and Yukon to support, and enable access for, individuals with disabilities. With the help of communities across BC and Yukon, we work to improve the quality of life for persons with diverse abilities of all ages through Easter Seals programs and services. Through special events, individual giving, corporate engagement, volunteerism and community support, Easter Seals programs and services are supported and work to improve independence, help address life’s challenges and support personal and family goals.
About This Cause
For over 75 years, Easter Seals BC/Yukon has been dedicated to enhancing the quality of life, self-esteem, and independence of individuals with disabilities. Through the Easter Seals House, summer camps and other specialized programs and services, we help break down barriers and help create a more inclusive, accessible, and equitable society, empowering our community to grow and thrive. Easter Seals BC/Yukon operates as a service of the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities. We are a provincial member of Easter Seals Canada and Easter Seals BC/Yukon is the name and brand under which we deliver our programs and services. Easter Seals House provides affordable accommodation and a home-away-from-home for BC residents required to travel to Vancouver for specialized medical care. Located along the medical corridor on Oak Street in Vancouver, the House has over 30,000 bed nights every year. With 49 self-contained suites the House offers personal autonomy to guests so they can relax, cook and live in their own space. This convenience is important, particularly for those with compromised immune systems and special dietary needs. Depending on their treatment plan, guests will stay for one night, several months, or more than a year. There are three Easter Seals Camps operating in BC – Shawnigan Lake on Vancouver Island, Squamish on the Sea to Sky corridor, and Winfield in Lake Country. These camps offer a one-week, fully-accessible, overnight camp program for persons aged 6-49 with any physical and/or intellectual disability. Along with onsite medical care, specialized meals and customized programs, camp also helps campers build confidence, develop a positive self-image, enhance skills and create friendships and test boundaries. Furthermore, Easter Seals Camps provide an important respite for families and caregivers.
