Mission Statement

Between Friends provides quality social, recreation and development opportunities so that people with disabilities can connect, grow and belong.

About This Cause

Many people with disabilities seek social and recreational activities that are fundamental to enriching self-esteem, quality of life, and mental and physical health. Between Friends facilitates programs with these goals in mind while promoting a focus on shared interests over individual differences. Between Friends provides unique opportunities for individuals with disabilities to have social interaction with peers who may or may not have a disability. These shared interactions and experiences often become the foundation of understanding and lasting friendships. Through social and recreational programs, individuals with disabilities experience an outlet for self-expression and self-development, increase their mental and physical health, improve skills and enhance their community participation. These experiences improve quality of life and provide a chance to develop a true sense of freedom and independence. Between Friends offers activities for children, youth and adults from Calgary and the surrounding areas. Annually, more than 700 individuals participate in programs. Each program area can be considered a stepping stone for participants to develop more experience in connecting, growing and belonging.
