Mission Statement

Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon cares for families of children whose health needs take them far from home and keeps families together in a home away from home, providing comfort, compassion, and a sense of community when they need it most.

About This Cause

When a child is seriously ill, the specialization required for their major medical procedure may only be available far from home. Treatment for illnesses such as leukemia, brain tumours or cystic fibrosis requires lengthy out-of-town hospitalization. For families who must travel to Vancouver from their home communities across BC and the Yukon, the challenges they face are overwhelming. Hotel stays are expensive, siblings need to be cared for, and staying in the hospital long term is unsustainable. That’s where Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon comes in—providing accommodation, comfort, compassion, and a sense of community to these families in need. Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon depends on community support to serve 2,000 families each year in our 73-bedroom House and over 500 in our Family Room at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
