We were incorporated in January 1980.

About This Cause

We offer one on one, peer and group support for parents, adults, youth and seniors via Zoom. We offer one $1,000 scholarship (Epilepsy Association of the Maritimes Memorial Scholarship) open to all students who live with epilepsy in the Maritimes) who have achieved an average of 80 and have extra curricular achievements including community involvement; two $1,000 Di Setchell Memorial Bursaries (open to all students in the Maritimes) seeking a post secondary education with preference given to those who are seeking their education from a community college or trade school, and $750 J. Russell Kline Bursary (open to all students in the Maritimes; eligibility for bursaries are based on financial need). Bursaries and scholarships are only available for recognized post secondary education institutions. We offer programming for adults, Project HOPE (Health of Persons with Epilepsy), awarded the hcc Award with EISAI, global recognition for a program designed to improve health. Another program is Purple Day; a global program meant to spread epilepsy awareness and officially recognized in Canada as March 26th. This global initiative is acknowledged in over 85 countries and on every continent. We offer a child/youth ambassador of the year program. This program will allow youth to be trained as mentors for children to promote epilepsy awareness in rural communities they live in. This program will promote inclusion, keep persons who live with epilepsy safe and deliver seizure first aid to communities at large in the Maritimes. We offer a Volunteer Program where students and adults have opportunities of community involvement to do fundraising, learn or enhance administrative skills and gain experience working with diverse population.
