Mission Statement

To enable emerging and professional artists in all disciplines, to bridge cultures, and to build strong and healthy communities through the arts.

About This Cause

North Van Arts is a non-profit, charitable cultural organization dedicated to maximizing the intrinsic value of the arts in all disciplines. Our programmes and services present fun and fulfilling opportunities to connect community members through the arts. We provide community members of all ages with opportunities for self-expression, entertainment, and diversion, to explore themes of interest and celebrate our community. We do this through arts education, events, art exhibitions at three locations, art rental, and an online regional culture map. We encourage young people to explore the arts through in-school programmes like Music Therapy and Art & Mycology, after school art programmes like drama, visual and literary arts, and Camp Creative for spring, summer and proD days when kids are out of school. The North Shore Culture Compass is a free online map with over 700 listings of places and stories with over 800 current events listed each year. The map was developed collaboratively with local First Nations and reflects placenames, animals and stories from the people who have lived on this land since time immemorial. North Van Arts has served the community since 1969, and continues to evolve and adapt to respond to the changing needs of community members. The current strategic plan focuses on four key areas: improving inclusion and accessibility, attracting new audiences and demographics, ensuring organizational sustainability and post COVID-19 recovery and insights. In the past year (2022-2023), community service and support was measured by the following: $229,100 paid to local visual & performing artists $10,185 paid to Indigenous artists, knowledge keepers, language specialists 5,657 people viewed online programming 6,013 people visited exhibitions at CityScape Community ArtSpace 17,659 people participated in community art projects, events, activities 3,809 volnteer hours made our programming possible 352 adults, youth, children registered in online & in-person art programmes 696 artists displayed work in gallery exhibitions 107 artists displayed work in virtual exhibitions The annual report and strategic plan are available on our website (About), as well as detailed information about all of our programmes.
