FortWhyte Alive is dedicated to providing programming, natural settings, and facilities for environmental education, outdoor recreation, and social enterprise. In so doing, FortWhyte promotes awareness and understanding of the natural world and actions leading to sustainable living.

About This Cause

FortWhyte Alive is located on Treaty 1 Territory, on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe, Ininew (Cree), Oji-Cree, Dene, and Dakota peoples, as well as the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES CONNECTED TO NATURE. We are rooted in Nature. We believe time spent in nature benefits people and the planet. We provide a place, programs, and knowledge to help people connect with nature and understand our place as part of nature. SUSTAINABILITY. We are committed to Sustainability. OUR STORY FortWhyte Alive takes its name from the surrounding neighbourhood. Our evolution continues upon the shoulders of many visionaries who led the way and our growing community who propel us into the future. Sustainability As agents of change in Manitoba, we have a strong and rooted commitment to sustainability. Our multi-year plan illustrates our commitment to creating change and building a greener future. FORTWHYTE FARMS FortWhyte Farms bridges communities, creates employment opportunities for youth, and produces food sustainably as a social enterprise. Visit our summer market for the ultimate local food experience. The Road to Self-Reliance FortWhyte Farms partners with high schools and youth-serving organizations to bring young people into nature to learn about food, farming, health and wellness. Young people at FortWhyte Farms gain skills and confidence through four stages 1. Academic and Skill Building Hands-on learning at the Farm and in the kitchen. 2. Summer Employment A supportive full-time summer job placement. 3. Leadership Program Supports a focus on gaining independence through specific skills. 4. Bridging to Off-Site Employment and High School Graduation Youth become FortWhyte Alive ambassadors while preparing to graduate and move on to further education, training, or apprenticeships. ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION Classroom education at FortWhyte Alive is more than just a field trip. Foundational outdoor experiences build a life-long relationship with nature and promote stewardship. Connecting to nature, in nature At FortWhyte Alive, students learn by doing. You can depend on our curriculum-informed programming to help you deliver meaningful hands-on experiences to your students. More than 30,000 students experience environmental education at FortWhyte Alive annually, learning about their connection to nature, in nature.
