Mission Statement

To enhance Seymour River salmon and educate the public about the importance of the river as a resource for drinking water, wildlife and the forest

About This Cause

The Seymour Salmonid Society (SSS) is a non-profit organisation that operates the Seymour River Hatchery and Education Centre. Our goal is to enhance Seymour River wild salmonid populations, restore and enhance aquatic habitat within the watershed, and educate the public about the importance of the river and surrounding watershed as a resource for wildlife and drinking water. Volunteers and community outreach are an integral part of the hatchery operations for the SSS, and the conservation activities we accomplish in the watershed are with the support of our over 800 registered volunteers and a prominent level of wider community involvement. The SSS has considerable stewardship experience in delivering conservation focused habitat restoration projects, environmental monitoring, along with public awareness and education programs. We also successfully operate an education program called Gently Down the Seymour (GDS) to over 2,000 Grade 3-6 students annually for over 27 years at our Education Centre.
