About This Cause

A gathering place for all... a place of transformation for learning, healing and belonging... a place to celebrate music, the arts, Mother Nature and each other... a vital and vibrant community hub for the South Shuswap... a place of abundance, including our natural farm... a place of learning, of relaxation and a place to grow spiritually. We seek to engage body, mind and spirit on our 24-acre main campus and our 7-acre natural farm. We are a community hub for our neighbours in the South Shuswap and beyond, offering practical supports and services to our neighbours and collaborating with community and government support and health services. We welcome thousands of guests annually to retreats and other events that run from a few days to a week or more. We offer generous hospitality with suites, lodge rooms, cabins and cabanas, tenting sites and serviced RV lots. We host a variety of activities throughout the year from a Christmas dinner for up to 600 guests, winter and summer picnics and other events, and learning sessions. Founded by a group of visionaries in the Anglican Church of Canada in 1963, we are proud of our roots in the Anglican / Episcopal tradition, inclusive in our welcome and generous in our embrace. We welcome each year people from many faith traditions who call the Sorrento Centre home. We host large gatherings (200+) of musicians (ukulele and banjos, among others), yoga practitioners (the largest yoga gathering in our region) and we are a hub for fibre and fabric arts, including quilters and knitters. We provide a home and studio space to local expressive artists (including two painters' groups), as well as the local 4H club and other groups. We are the regional hub in the South Shuswap for the Community Response Network - a collaboration of non-governmental and governmental groups that focuses on vulnerable seniors. Our farm is a place of abundance, offering fresh produce to our kitchen, and also to the local food bank, as well as to our neighbours. Our community gardens includes 16 raised beds for our neighbours. We provide training and support in natural gardening techniques, as well as cooking and preserving classes. We gratefully acknowledge that we live, work, pray and play in Secwépemc’ulucw, where the Secwepemc people have lived since time immemorial practicing virtues of harmony and generosity. We are a centre for reconciliation among Indigenous people and settlers, offering workshops and events throughout the year with Indigenous knowledge holders. We regularly welcome Secwepemc elders. Our main campus is located next door to Sorrento Elementary School, and we regularly host the students for natural science and outdoors projects, special events (such as Earth Day) and our annual holiday gathering featuring the students of the school signing carols (along with a roaring bonfire, hot chocolate, petting animals and a visit from Santa) attracts upwards of 1,000 eager children, parents, family members and friends.
