About This Cause
Crossroads International is a leading Canadian volunteer cooperation agency advancing equality for women and girls and eradicating poverty in some of the world’s poorest countries in Africa and South America. Crossroads International works in some of the world’s poorest countries where women and girls face great adversity — unequal access to resources and economic opportunities, gender-based violence and limited participation in political and public life. Never has the need of women, girls and youth been more urgent. Gender inequality is resulting in increased sexual abuse and violence against women and girls and the denial of their basic human rights. Extreme poverty exacerbated by a changing climate is resulting in food insecurity, further increasing the vulnerability of the world’s poorest especially women and girls. Together we are piloting innovative programs to prevent violence and abuse; create sustainable incomes for women and youth; and empower women to become leaders in their communities.
