About This Cause

The Alberta Lung (“ALA”) was first established as the Alberta Tuberculosis Association in 1939. During the tuberculosis (TB) epidemic, it educated the public about TB, conducted mass chest x-rays, and provided rehabilitation services for TB sanatorium patients. Recognized as one of Alberta’s oldest charities, today the AB Lung focuses its efforts and resources on all aspects of lung health including Coronavirus, asthma, COPD and lung cancer, flu and infectious diseases, sleep apnea, environmental issues, advocacy, youth education and awareness on leading healthy respiratory lifestyles by avoiding tobacco and e-cigarettes and continued work in TB. Supported by its incredible volunteer board of directors, staff team, and medical advisory sections. The AB Lung is about more than just a cause, we all breathe, and we all breathe the same air, it is the first and last thing we do in life, so that shared breathing is meaningful and important to all of us. Our Vision Health Lungs for Everyone Our Mission Saving Lungs to Save Lives We lead - in respiratory health, connecting, advocating and engaging community members to support better lung health for all. If you’ve never struggled for breath, it can be hard to understand how terrifying that can be. But for those who live with lung disease, breathing is an everyday struggle. Your support can help them catch their breath. Life-threatening lung diseases are on the rise and more than 600,000 Albertans are coping with lung illnesses. As Alberta’s population ages, that number will continue to grow. The AB Lung works to help the newly-diagnosed and those living with chronic conditions receive the information and care they need to battle their illness. The AB Lung supports the work of health professionals and educators who assist patients directly, and researchers who are exploring new treatments that hold the promise of a cure. It’s a collaborative effort — one that relies on the generosity of people like you. If you breathe, lung health matters to you.
