About This Cause

For over 40 years, the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta has supported individuals living with schizophrenia and their families by offering support, educational programs and housing. We have 6 branches throughout Alberta; Camrose, Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge. Our programs include Adult Peer Support, Senior Peer Support, Family Support, Supportive Employment and Community Education Presentations, which are all offered online, in-person or over the phone. SSA also owns and operates three supportive housing programs which are home to 55 individuals living with mental illness who were homeless or at risk of homelessness. The Facts: 1 in 100 people worldwide live with schizophrenia. In Alberta that's 44,000 individuals! 96% of people living with schizophrenia report experiencing discrimination in their community. Schizophrenia is a treatable brain disorder. With medical care and the understanding and support from a caring community, recovery is possible! We strive to empower our clients through their education and wellness journey, reducing hospital stays and decreasing family and caregiver burnout.
