About This Cause

(a) Establishing and operating a place of worship; (b) Conducting regular services; (c) Performing various rites such as baptisms, the Lord's Supper, baby dedications, weddings, and funerals; (d) Providing spiritual direction and guidance; (e) Offering classes in religious education; and (f) Offering programs that advance the Christian faith in a practical manner through mentoring, classes, workshops, seminars, leadership training programs, retreats, camps and service opportunities for youth to help strengthen them in adherence to the Christian faith. Examples are listed below: Below is a description of the practical faith-based activities the Church undertakes. Additional promotional materials are enclosed to provide information concerning these activities: Every Christmas, a team of volunteers from the Church - spearheaded by some of the pastors and ministry team leaders - will aid the Jesus Network (BN# 843182197RR0001) organization in packaging and delivering “Christmas Baskets” to low income refugee families in the local community. Materials and donations are provided mostly from church members (in addition to the materials that the Jesus Network gathers itself). The team of volunteers from the Church will coordinate a day to come and assemble all the baskets at the church building. The baskets will then be delivered to refugee families living in North York with whom the Jesus Network has built connections. The volunteers will provide their own transportation and cover their own travel expenses. In addition, the Church also has initiatives to prepare Christmas gifts for senior citizens living in the nearby community The Church makes gifts to mission organizations such as Canadian Baptist Ministries (BN# 106843436 RR 0001) and SIM Canada (BN# 129947537 RR 0001), as well as to local registered charities that carry out poverty relief work, e.g., The Scott Mission (BN# 107963613 RR 0001), Support non-profit local organizations that provide services to vulnerable and marginalized groups (e.g., Scott Mission , YFC Toronto (BN# 140813502RR000), Toronto City Mission(BN# 108114158 RR 0001). The Church has also organized Chinese language schools (in both Cantonese and Mandarin) for children and youth since 1987 helping ethnic Chinese children. The Church hosts annual outreach events (Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving) to local communities The Church has held an ongoing commitment to help mentor and disciple the teenagers and young adults in the community through the Youth Ministry. This is done through a variety of means that are offered to every youth that attends regularly scheduled ministry events, but predominantly through the mentorship and discipleship program that happens between the youth pastor, adult counsellors, and teenage committee members. The youth pastor working with a designated group of adult counsellors (who are all volunteers from the church) meet regularly throughout the year with at least 1-2 youth committee members each. These regular meetings between counsellors and youth committee members are held for the purposes of building relationships through fostering ongoing spiritual practices, accountability, and times of prayer. All costs (coffee meet-ups, excursions, activities, etc.) associated with these meetings are covered mostly through the volunteers. Throughout the year, there are also weekly youth meetings held on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings to help build community and provide additional times of spiritual accountability, education, and growth. The Church provides a year-round sports outreach ministry as an ancillary and incidental means to advance religion through a myriad of physical activities. These include, but are not limited to, softball, badminton, table tennis, basketball and volleyball. Regularly scheduled events are run by members of the congregation in partnership with ministry leaders and pastors so that faith and spiritual ministry are part of the sports activity. These sports outreach ministries are typically free of charge for members of the congregation in order to help youth strengthen their faith by participating in sports activities with likeminded attendees. As a continuing ministry to care for the youth and young adults in the Church, the Church also has a regular commitment to visit university and college students and to provide ongoing spiritual support to them as needed. This follow-up ministry happens primarily through the youth pastor and the youth ministry adult counsellors. For University students, the youth pastor will typically arrange at least 1-2 visits per year for campus visits. These visits are carried out primarily for the purposes of checking up on students’ spiritual health, overall wellbeing, and to help build connections with campus fellowship ministries and organizations. During these one-day visits, time is spent sharing meals and times of sharing and prayer. Often the visits are attended by both the youth pastor and some of the adult counsellors.
