Mission Statement
To provide programs for children ages 6-17 that encourage the development of effective living skills, the pursuit of healthy lifestyle choices and the connection of families to the community.
About This Cause
AYP has been providing free life-skills programs for children ages 6-12 who live in high-risk North East Edmonton communities. Whether it be our flagship Community Outreach & Living Skills In-school program, our Community Explorers program or our ART with AYP program, our wide variety of after-school and evening program offerings foster the healthy development of each participant’s sense of self-esteem and self-worth. With each of our programs, our focus is to create a learn-through-play environment and encourage the development of effective living skills, the pursuit of healthy lifestyle choices, and the connection of families to the community. Today, AYP offers 9 auxiliary programs, and is partnered with 12 schools in the Northeast area of Edmonton. In 2021, AYP supported 202 unique children and 149 unique families. Through our Healthy Snack Program, we offered 3232 healthy snacks to 202 unique children. We Believe: That all children have the right to learn the skills that will enhance their quality of life. That all children have the right to express their feelings and know they are valued. That all children have the right to grow up in a positive, healthy, secure and stable environment. That family, school and community greatly influences the development of a child. That the most influential periods in a person’s life occur when he/she/they is a child. That participation in recreational activities is not a luxury, but a necessity for a happy and healthy life. That access to cultural and recreational facilities promotes a sense of citizenship. Our Goals: To promote a healthy sense of self-esteem in each participant. To enhance participants’ social interaction skills. To promote relationships between participants, families, schools and community service providers. To guide participants to new and interesting opportunities in the community. To provide parents with helpful resources and to offer support to parents, caregivers and teachers.
