Mission Statement
Engaging volunteers to build strong communities.
About This Cause
Serving the Tri-Cities region and New Westminster since 1976, Community Volunteer Connections is an established not-for-profit volunteer centre, with a mission to build strong communities through volunteerism. We support volunteers from diverse backgrounds and abilities to volunteer in the voluntary and public sector. Community Volunteer Connections believes that people can make a difference and improve the health and well-being of their community through volunteer pursuits that serve the needs of all people. We do this by matching students, newcomers, professional working adults, experienced retired veterans, and adults with dis/Abilities to meaningful volunteer opportunities. Volunteers in our Volunteer Integration Program (VIP) contribute their time in support of adults with developmental disabilities that volunteer in the community. The program advocates for the inclusion of volunteers from all backgrounds. We also support volunteers and organizations through our Community Volunteer Services Program (CVSP), an initiative that refers volunteers to organizations in the voluntary sector that rely on the support of volunteers to facilitate mission objectives. Our Mental Health Integration Support Program (MHISP) engages volunteers to work with adults that have persistent mental health challenges, to engage with them in recreational and life building skills activities. Our services and programs are designed to increase volunteer engagement, enhance life-skills for clients with disabilities and mental health challenges, improve the economic development of newcomers and student volunteers, and increase organizational capacity through volunteer recruitment and volunteer management best practices. We support volunteers through the service of identifying, finding, preparing for and applying for volunteer roles. Volunteers and volunteer leaders are matched through our online volunteer opportunity listings, social media promotions, our volunteer voice newsletter, our annual volunteer job fairs, and roundtable sessions. Community Volunteer Connections is expanding its programming through the development of a youth leadership project, supporting youth in developing employable skills while they give time to a cause in the community. In addition, we are also working towards a program that enhances organizational capacity by supporting the recruitment, training and placement of board members.
