Mission Statement
Where every child reaches their full potential.
About This Cause
At the Ridge Meadows Child Development Centre, our primary goals are to promote healthy child development, supporting children at risk for development delays at an early age. We provide timely, effective family-centered intervention that will help children achieve their fullest potential. Our areas of clinical support include Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy & Speech Language Therapy. In addition to providing the support of a Key Worker, we have expanded our services to promote mental health and wellness (Enhanced Early Intervention Program). Our vision for this program is one where every child can live in a state of physical, spiritual, mental and emotional well-being. EEIP works in conjunction with families’ already existing services and schedules to increase access for children at risk for a mental health diagnosis. Families can self-refer to our agency or go through a pediatricians or family doctor. The Physiotherapy Department provides service to children and their families in the Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows and Katzie First Nation communities. Our Early Intervention Program provides direct therapy and consultative services to children from birth to age 5 years of age. Our physiotherapists work collaboratively with other departments and our community partners to provide a team approach to best support the children and families that we work with. The School-Aged Therapy Program (SATP) provides consultative physiotherapy services to children from Kindergarten through to Grade 12 working closely with School District 42 to support children while they learn at school and to support their families in the home environment with equipment needs. The Occupational Therapy Department is comprised of three programs: The Early Intervention Program, the Complex Feeding Team and the School Age Therapy Program. Our occupational therapists support children and students with neurological, physical and/or developmental challenges from birth through grade 12 with a focus on fine motor, self- regulation, complex feeding and activities of daily living skills. Services in the Early Intervention Program consisted of consultation to children from 0-5 years of age. For the School Age Therapy Program (SATP) the occupational therapy services are provided on a consultative basis to the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows School District (SD 42). Therapists work in partnership with district staff and families to help meet each student’s needs within the school environment. The Complex Feeding Team consists of occupational therapists and speech- language pathologists. A team-based approach helps support children with very complex feeding needs. The Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Department assess the communication abilities of infants and young children for receptive and expressive language, vocabulary, voice, articulation, phonology, resonance and fluency. The department hosts numerous virtual and in-person groups, including an innovative early language group for some of our younger clients as well as groups focused on education and training for parents of children with social communication difficulties and autism. Our SLPs work in close collaboration with our staff and community partners to best-serve clients who are seeing multiple providers In addition, the SLP dept. continues to work with the OT Department to offer joint services through the Centre’s Complex Feeding Team and to provide supplemental early language supports for children with hearing impairments through the province’s Early Hearing Program. The Family Connections Department expanded in 2021 with the addition of the Enhanced Early Intervention Program (EEIP), which aims to support families who have children aged 0-6, at risk of developing a mental health diagnosis, and already requiring two or more services at our Centre. The EEIP works in a collaborative relationship with families and existing service providers, and seeks to accommodate families’ already existing services and schedules. Together, staff and families create a family plan based on family priorities and goals. The core EEIP team includes an Aboriginal Infant Development Consultant, a Family Resource Worker, a Family Support Worker, an Infant Mental Health Clinician, an Indigenous Cultural Guide, a Music Therapist, and our most popular staff member Bradley the Therapy Dog. Finally, our Key Worker and Family Connections Program provides support to families of children and youth under age 19 with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and other complex needs. The Family Connections program assists caregivers in understanding FASD by providing education and information specific to the needs of the child and family. In addition to managing individual FASD caseloads, the Key Worker also facilitates ADHD & FASD groups. Collaboration with our community partners is a very important aspect of how we work with the families we serve. We work closely with a community Infant Development Program and Supported Child Development in addition to early learning professionals within our indigenous community.
