BEAVERHILL BIRD OBSERVATORY SOCIETY

Edmonton, Alberta, T5J 2N5 Canada

Mission Statement

Our mission is to promote the conservation of Canada’s natural heritage through engagement in education, research, and community activities that foster knowledge and appreciation of natural history in Alberta, with a special emphasis on migratory bird species of the Beaverhill Lake area.

About This Cause

The Beaverhill Bird Observatory has operated a field station near Tofield, Alberta since 1984. We teach visitors about bird biology and conservation, give educational talks at local schools, host a week-long Young Ornithologists' Workshop for high school students, and provide internships to university students so that they can gain hands-on experience in the natural sciences. Our research projects monitor the migration, reproductive success, and survivorship of numerous bird species and our data sets now span more than three decades. We also act as stewards of the internationally recognized Beaverhill Natural Area, where more than 270 species of birds have been observed and 145 are known to breed.
