Mission Statement

The ''Maison des jeunes L'Azymut'' is an association of teenagers and adults who have given themselves the mission, on a voluntary basis, in their community, to hold a lively meeting place where young people from 12 to 17 years old, in contact meaningful adults can become Critical, active and responsible citizens.

About This Cause

First of all, our mission with young people is to be a place of welcome, listening and reference. We do awareness evenings, prevention activities on subjects that affect young people (violence, drugs, suicides, sexuality, etc.) Secondly, a mission that we have had for several years is education in peaceful attitudes and behaviors that high school students transmit to primary school students: The "Les jeunes ambassadeurs de la paix" (Young Peace Ambassadors) project is an awareness-raising and education of primary school children, by young people from highschools in the territory, on the importance of developing peaceful attitudes and behaviors in their interpersonal relationships. It consists of three animations made by highschool students to primary school students. Our animations focus on: 1- Peace within yourself, recognize your emotions and learn to calm them (breathing technique); 2- Peace around you (importance of needs, feelings, empathy); 3- Non-violent communication (NVC by Marshall Rosenberg) The animations bring benefits to young people, both elementary school and high school teenagers. The animations on the importance of peaceful attitudes and behaviors have an impact on violent behavior in children. Indeed, a change in the behavior of primary school students is observed after the passage of a team of highschool students. In addition, a regular mindfulness practice has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, depression and addiction, and increase focus and productivity. Mindfulness is about paying attention to the present moment, that is, to our thoughts, emotions and bodily sensations, without labeling them as "good" or "bad". It helps to relax and deal with stress and frustration. In our opinion, the long-term impacts of such a project on the community will be, above all, to increase the social and relational capacities of these future citizens, the development of empathy and the techniques of conflict resolution. In addition, our program will allow the teenagers who will present the animations to develop their self-esteem, their openness and their ease in expressing themselves in public. Since 1999, the project has reached hundreds of high school students who have met thousands of primary school students. This project could extent even more, since we have joined valuable collaborators.
