Mission Statement
Multidisciplinary Collaboration We foster collaboration among healthcare professionals to address the multifaceted medical, psychological, and social needs of patients with obesity. By creating a dedicated space for dialogue and innovation, we ensure consistent, evidence-based approaches across the province. Education and Professional Development We organize workshops, seminars, and conferences to update members on advancements in obesity and bariatric care. Training and mentorship opportunities are provided for healthcare professionals interested in obesity management, including minimally invasive and robotic surgery, nutritional support, and pharmacological therapies. Advocacy and Policy Influence We actively advocate for better obesity care policies and work to influence healthcare decisions at the provincial level. Our society raises awareness of the challenges faced by patients living with obesity and strives for improved access to treatment and resources.
About This Cause
Nova Scotia Bariatric Physicians and Surgeons Society, a dedicated group of healthcare professionals committed to advancing obesity care across the province. Obesity is a chronic disease with a complex interplay of genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors, contributing to significant comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and sleep apnea. With the incidence of obesity steadily rising in Nova Scotia, our mission is to provide a comprehensive and unified approach to care. Through collaboration, education, and advocacy, we aim to improve patient outcomes, support healthcare providers, and drive policy changes that prioritize obesity as a critical health issue. Our society brings together bariatric surgeons, endocrinologists, dietitians, psychologists, primary care physicians, and allied health professionals to ensure a multidisciplinary and evidence-based approach to obesity management.
