About This Cause

At its core, any school should be a place where all students feel welcome to gather to learn, establish goals and have the expertise and guidance to achieve them. This is the driving force behind our concept for Phoenix Skating Academy. In Edmonton, there are numerous established skating clubs. These clubs have been around for decades and have established areas where they draw students from. The southwest area of Edmonton has shown a growing trend of increased population in the past 10 years. These neighborhoods are filled with young families with young children who will want to learn to skate. We envision a clientele of all ages. Our prices are very competitive in order to attract customers but also living wages for our contracted coaches which include on ice as well as off ice strength training, dance and figure skating mechanics. These are essential aspects of the skaters’ overall training. We also would like to be inclusive of all levels of socio-economic status. PSA started as an idea in March 2020 when 9 families decided none of the existing skating clubs matched their values. Our budget to run the Phoenix Skating Academy for the Fall/Winter season (September – March) is $65,000. This includes: insurance, ice costs, coaching fees, marketing and supplies. With our current registrations, our revenue will be $23,000. If we maintain the 15 Learn To Skate registrations we will bring in an extra $7,160. Our total income will be $30,160. We will be short approximately $34,700. Our ice rental cost is approximately $20,000 more than we planned as we could not qualify for any discount through the City of Edmonton. We currently have enough ice time booked for most of our skaters but our senior skaters still need at least 2 more hours of ice time each week. We will be able to pay for our current ice and book additional necessary ice with your support. We are looking for sponsors to help us cover our ice costs as we market and build our Academy this year.
