About This Cause

The Sundre & District Aquatic Society Board owns and operates the Aquaplex Facility for the community in the Sundre area. We are the only aquatic/fitness centre in the province of Alberta and majority of Canada that is not owned by their municipality. Although, the Town of Sundre and Mtn. View County do not own the facility; together they donate approximately $259,000.00 per year from municipal taxes. The Aquaplex Board uses these funds for part of the payroll expenses. The 12 member Aquaplex Board of Directors, oversee the day to day operation of the facility for the community in the Sundre area. The facility was not built until all funds were in place prior to construction commencing. The facility has been in operation since 2002. It is an enclosed Aquatic/Fitness Centre with a 25 meter - 5 lane pool, a hot tub and leisure pool area for the public to enjoy. User fees, donations, grants and continual fundraising are required to maintain and help keep the facility operational. We rely heavily on volunteer support and donations from the businesses and general public in the Sundre area. The Town of Sundre paid for a Lifesaving Society Audit in 2015, which showed a list of repairs and upgrades required at the facility. Since 2015 we have been upgrading and replacing equipment as funding has been made available. Although we are operating the facility at this time without a deficit, we require, fundraising and financial assistance to help offset the expenses for major repair items. Our most recent repair/replacement was the upgrading of the waterslide, stairs and platform which was a major repair item listed in the audit. The next major item on our list, is the replacement of the decking material around the pool and waterslide.
