The Oladele Foundation/African Cancer Support Group

Calgary, Alberta, T1Y 6M6 Canada

Mission Statement

Our mission is to support cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and people battling other chronic diseases in the Black community. We support our brave members by raising funds, sharing stories, symptoms, information, and coping strategies, creating educational awareness, and a support group community.

About This Cause

A cancer diagnosis is one of the most stressful experiences in a cancer patient’s life. Being in a support group helps survivors, and patients cope with the emotional trauma caused by the disease. While some people experience shock, anger, and disbelief, others may feel intense sadness, fear, and a sense of loss. Even the most supportive family members and friends cannot understand exactly how it feels to have cancer, this can sometimes lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation. The African Cancer Support Group (ACSG) is a safe place to share information, discover strength, hope, comfort, and coping strategies, and most importantly, a place to give and receive emotional support. Survivors and people in remission give words of hope to fighters, suggest ways to cope, and have the ability to share without fear. Through The Oladele Foundation (a charitable organization), the African Cancer Support Group (ACSG) provides culturally appropriate support, including meals, house cleaning, and complimentary services. We also provide education and awareness on cancer screening and prevention.
