About This Cause
Support Black Charities (SBC) is a Canadian-registered nonprofit dedicated to supporting and empowering Black-led, Black-serving, and Black-focused organizations worldwide. We aim to create a thriving, sustainable Black ecosystem by increasing visibility, resources, and opportunities for charitable organizations and the communities they serve. Our Work: We focus on capacity building, strengthening governance, and enhancing the sustainability of Black organizations. SBC operates through three key programs that drive impact: 1. The SBC Directory: A vetted online platform featuring Black-serving nonprofits from around the world, connecting them to donors, volunteers, businesses, and collaborators eager to make a difference. 2. Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI): A groundbreaking program that fosters collaboration and investment in Black causes, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 3. SBC Business Development Assessment for Nonprofits (BDA): The SBC Business Development Assessment (BDA) is a comprehensive tool designed to help Black-led and Black-serving nonprofits evaluate their organizational strengths, identify areas for improvement, and create actionable pathways for growth. Through this structured assessment, nonprofits gain clarity on critical areas like governance, operations, funding readiness, and strategic planning. 4. SBC Academy: A resource hub and Online Learning Management system providing online and in-person training, self-pace courses, mentorship, webinars, and tools to build strong foundations and prepare organizations to attract donors, funders, and strategic partners. (in development) 5. SBC Hear Their Stories: Hear Their Stories is an online web series where organizations are interviewed, and engaging trailer-like media content is released on SBC platforms. By showcasing their missions, community programs, and success stories, this series provides supporters with a deeper understanding of their vital work. The goal is to further amplify the visibility of these organizations, connecting them to a broader audience and inspiring greater support. ( in Development) Our Impact: • 150+ organizations from 20 countries are currently listed in our directory, benefiting from increased visibility, targeted connections, and promotional campaigns. • Our SBC Academy equips nonprofits with practical tools, strategic plans, and business development support to ensure long-term growth and effectiveness. • Through GBPI, we’re bridging the gap between donors and impactful organizations tackling systemic issues like food insecurity, education disparities, health inequities, and social justice. • In 2024, SBC introduced the Business Development Assessment (BDA), a strategic tool to help Black-led organizations identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for growth. Over 30% of organizations that completed the assessment took initiative to unlock their full potential, with many hiring SBC for tailored capacity-building and development support. By taking actionable steps, these organizations are now better equipped to operate efficiently, attract funding, and deliver sustainable impact to the Black communities they serve. • Showcasing Nonprofits at SBC Events: At every SBC event—whether in-person networking events, workshops, or formal galas—we prioritize elevating nonprofit visibility by providing opportunities for organizations to showcase their work, mission, and impact. These showcases connect nonprofits to new supporters, partners, and potential funders, helping them gain exposure and build valuable relationships that foster long-term success. Our Outcome and Vision: The ultimate outcome of SBC’s work is to ensure Black-serving organizations worldwide become sustainable, self-sufficient, and empowered to create generational impact. By supporting and elevating these organizations, we are laying the foundation for a stronger Black ecosystem that thrives economically, socially, and culturally for generations to come. How You Can Help: SBC relies on the collective power of donors, volunteers, businesses, and individuals to advance our mission. • Support: Donate funds, resources, or services to sustain Black-led organizations and their programs. • Volunteer: Share your time, expertise, and skills to assist organizations in our network. • Partner: Businesses can collaborate with SBC through sponsorships, grants, or direct support for nonprofit initiatives. • Spread the Word: Raise awareness by sharing SBC content, promoting Black organizations on social media, and advocating for Black philanthropy. • Engage: Explore our vetted SBC Directory to find organizations aligned with your passions, values, and interests.
