Mission Statement

We believe that every person on this earth is beautiful and special. We aim to bring hope, healing, salvation and transformation in the lives of those in need, here in Canada and throughout the world.

About This Cause

After spending many wonderful years as a couple working with Watoto Ministries in Uganda, in 2011 Chris Komagum set off on a preaching tour throughout Canada. It was during that tour he felt the call of God to move his family to this beautiful country to deepen the church’s relationship with Jesus Christ and re-ignite the passion for global missions. In 2014 that call became a reality when Chris, along with his wife Heather and their two children, made Canada their new home. In 2018, they took the first Mission Team to Kamdini, Northern Uganda and began what has now birthed the registered charity Watume Global Ministries. This is in fulfillment of a God-given mission originally given to Chris and Heather over 20 years ago. Why we chose Kamdini, Northern Uganda as our starting point. This area is rural, with most of the population being peasant farmers. At the end of the Lord's Resistance Army 20-year insurgency in 2007, aid poured into Gulu and Kitgum and other major centres in the north, but Kamdini was - and still is - a place people passed through, not stopped in. The community has therefore been largely ignored for decades. There has been no Government investment in education or community infrastructure, though electricity is now available. The families in the community are for the most part uneducated and have no formal employment, but they do have land which they cultivate by hand to provide food and rear chicken and goats. Many households are headed by widows raising their children, or the women are from a polygamous background and poorly supported by the father of their children. This area was the southern extent to which the LRA rebels came during the insurgency, and so many of the people, and especially the women, are still traumatized as a result. In addition, in the last 5 years, Kamdini has developed as a truck stop for large trucks en route from Kenya to South Sudan and D R Congo. This has brought some commerce to the local economy in Kamdini, but it has also resulted in a high rate of teenage pregnancies, "back street" abortions and an increase in the rate of HIV infection in the general population. The first initiative was to drill a deep well in 2018 to provide clean drinking water to the community. This has improved the general health immensely, since the previous water source was a dirty river shared by people and animals alike. The second initiative - at the request of the local community leaders - is a Primary School. This will be one of the first building blocks in re-building this community - at present only 40% of children complete primary education, let alone secondary. This has to change if this community is to have any hope for the future! We are therefore starting with the primary school which will provide quality affordable education to give the children a reason to hope and dream of a better future for themselves and their families. The site has been graded and fenced, and the architectural drawings are now complete. Join with us to make this a reality! In 2023, we also started a small microfinance scheme to help needy widows start up income generating activities. This has proved successful, and will be expanded in 2024 to include more women, who will then have resource to improve their living conditions and send their children to school. Future initiatives as resources permit include constructing a secondary school as well as a technical training school; and improving farming methods and agricultural output to enhance food security in the community. There is much to be done to restore hope and dignity to this forgotten community in Northern Uganda.
