About This Cause

To view our case for support, please visit: https://rb.gy/wdudud Farm to Cafeteria Canada (F2CC) has a vision for food systems that nourish people and the planet and we exist to transform how food is experienced, learned, and celebrated in all schools across Canada. Using a partnership-based approach, we work with school communities to grow their capacity to provide students with: 1) access to healthy, locally sourced food at school; 2) opportunities for hands-on learning about food and food systems; and 3) connections to the broader community, including farmers and other local food providers. We refer to this as the “farm to school" approach. Also called the “local food to school” approach, which reflects a diversity of local and traditional foods that can include much more than farms. Our work includes 4 strategic pillars: 1. Grow: to inform, empower and equip school communities with the resources to create positive change in their food systems. 2. Connect: a diversity of partners, schools, practitioners, and mentors through a network that supports shared learning and innovation. 3. Fund: comprehensive school food programs to get kids growing, cooking, sharing, and enjoying healthy local food at school. 4. Inform policy: through an evidence-based approach that enables healthier school food environments, and sustainable community food systems. At F2CC, we believe that: 1. Food systems have a huge impact on the health of people and the planet, and we can drive positive change by investing in local, healthy and sustainable food. 2.Schools are at the heart of our communities and supporting school food systems can lead to lasting change. 3. All children and youth have the right to access healthy and culturally appropriate food in schools. 4. Food literacy is essential and needs to be taught to our kids. 5. We are stronger with many voices and everyone can play a role in shaping how students access and experience food in schools. 6. Strong and resilient food systems reflect and celebrate the diversity of our country. 7. Food is a powerful connector, both to place and to others. 8. Resilient food systems support a diversity of food providers in a fair and equitable way. 9. The way to create positive change is through respect, kindness, sharing and reciprocity. As an organization working to connect students to food and the lands and waters it comes from, we acknowledge that our work takes place on the lands of the diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people of what we now call Canada. We also recognize that Canada's colonial history includes many traumas created by residential schools and the destruction of traditional foodways. We commit to centering food sovereignty, Indigenous food systems, and community impact in our work and to working together towards realizing these dreams in a respectful, honest, humble and reciprocal way.
