Mission Statement
Our vision is that seniors and their caregivers are seen, supported and celebrated - one trishaw ride at a time. Vancouver Cycling Without Age Society (VCWAS) is a leader in addressing ageism and senior social isolation. Our shared trishaw rides foster a renewed sense of adventure, create positive connections between seniors and their community, and promote health and well-being. We are recognized by seniors, caregivers, facilities and government across Vancouver as the preferred recreational and social activity for seniors. Our work will always be centred around the well-being and needs of seniors. The trishaw is our tool, the Pilots are our heartbeat, and enriching the lives of seniors is our mission.
About This Cause
Founded in 2018, VCWAS is a registered charity and volunteer-powered organization that takes seniors and their friends and family for recreational bike rides on trishaws (three-wheeled bicycles). We predominantly serve seniors between the ages of 70-100 who live in long-term care homes, experience social isolation, and face barriers to getting outside. Our passengers experience the joy and health benefits of a slow ride around the streets, parks, and bike lanes of Vancouver, engaging in conversations and storytelling, seeing old sights, building relationships, and feeling the wind in their hair again. We provide rides 7 days a week from May through October take passengers on the bike lanes, streets and into parks across the City of Vancouver, from False Creek, the Arbutus Greenway, Point Grey and Jericho Beach, to the West End, Stanley Park, Riley Park-Little Mountain, and Pacific Spirit Park.
