Mission Statement
The Black Women’s Institute for Health (BWIH) is a registered charity dedicated to amplifying and transforming the health and social outcomes of Black women and girls. Rooted in advocacy, mobilization, and education, we champion policies and legislation that address all social determinants of health, from employment and education to safe housing and healthcare access. By organizing communities and empowering voices, we ensure that the unique challenges of Black women and girls are addressed in public health discussions and decisions. Through our resources, workshops, and programs, we educate and empower Black women and girls to take charge of their health and well-being, fostering leadership within our communities. BWIH is not just an organization, but a movement ignited by Black women, for Black women, centering our needs, experiences, and the changes we demand.
About This Cause
Advocating, Mobilizing, Educating What we do: We work with one singular goal to amplify and change the health and social outcomes and experiences of Black women and girls. For too long Black women have long stood as pillars for others, often neglecting our own needs. We can’t afford to do that any longer. The Black Women’s Institute for Health (BWIH) works to centre and prioritize our needs, our outcomes our experiences and work towards the changes we need. BWIH is not just an organization but a movement—a movement ignited by Black women, for Black women. As a non-profit organization, we are dedicated to advocating for the health and survival of Black women and girls, focusing on all social determinants of health and mobilizing for tangible change within policy and legislation.. Here's how we we work to make a difference: Advocacy for Systemic Change: We champion policies and legislation that prioritize the health needs of Black women and girls, addressing all social determinants of health from employment and education to safe housing and healthcare access. Mobilizing for Action: By organizing communities and empowering voices, we ensure that the unique challenges faced by Black women and girls are heard and addressed in public health discussions and decisions. Education and Empowerment: We provide resources, workshops, and programs designed to educate and empower Black women and girls, helping them to take charge of their health and well-being, while nurturing their roles as leaders within the community.
