Mission Statement
Our mission is to mentor foster youth through permanent and all-inclusive housing supports while breaking down the barriers that exist in Ontario as well as to offer scholarships every year to foster youth to pursue careers in Real Estate.
About This Cause
Nearly half of all youth who leave the Ontario child welfare system experience homelessness by the time they are 25 and at the very least housing insecurity in the best of situations. Obtaining affordable housing is a crisis even in remote and rural settings and many homeowners fail to see the potential in young tenants with little to no credit history. Completing high school, working to pay the bills, and applying for secondary education at the same time is too much for many and only 41% of foster youth graduate high school while only 3% graduate any secondary education. When a child or youth is brought into foster care, it is by order of a judge. Based on the level of protection and intervention needed, children can be in care for days or years. They are promised a better home than the one they were taken from and nearly half are finding themselves jobless and homeless by the time they are 25. It is difficult for any youth to find a place to live on their own with the number of obstacles that are in the way of successfully obtaining safe and secure housing. Even with the current level and spread of services, homeowners still demand what many youth do not have which unintentionally forces young people all over Ontario to live in unsafe or illegal living spaces. Creating Roots will provide a network of support for each youth to help them navigate the housing world safely, and we will work with them, indefinitely.
