Mission Statement
Our Mission is to empower our BIPOC children and youth by helping them build their self worth through learning uplifting historical cultural knowledge. We believe being exposed to positive, uplifting, cultural knowledge from a young age will have a positive impact in the direction of our youth. "You only know where you're going, until you know where you came from" rings true with us as it's the core belief of our organization's mandate. We believe through knowing their fruitful past, providing care and supporting them throughout each stage of their development our youth will achieve great feats
About This Cause
Building Black Youth Foundation is a community hub focused on building self-worth through cultural-based education for children and youth. We are founded on the belief that education should be accessible for any child at any level. Our unique programs foster connections and build the foundation of cultural identity for youth to achieve their goals! This program will offer 3 key features: 1. A virtual cultural-based program: •This program features an exclusive specially designed eLearning program that teaches Black children and youth Black History through an uplifting positive lense. •The cultural based program features an innovative Afrocentric curriculum designed specially by BBYF, that focuses on Black history from the African and Caribbean Diaspora. Every two weeks children and youth will be fully immersed in an interactive, multimedia eLearning program that will teach, uplift, and cultivate cultural identity. •The curriculum will allow Black children and youth to learn about important historical figures, focusing on pre-colonial historical knowledge centered around the African and Caribbean diasporas. This program is designed to build self worth, self belief and confidence within Black children and youth. •We will provide a variety of representational materials to constantly reinforce and uplift black children and youth through representational books, dolls and other play-based and educational materials in addition to the cultural programs. Representation matters for black children and youth and it is extremely important to see themselves represented positively in as many ways as possible. Whether it be through learning history and seeing images of individuals who look like them reading books with people who look like them and having access to educational and play-based materials with characters and people who look like them all play a key role in their overall development and cultural identity cultivation. Our program was designed specifically for this and is a great accessible way to provide children and youth access to a wealth of knowledge that will have a lasting impact on their development. 2. Academics support program: •Our Academic support program focuses on giving children and youth access to much needed educational support and resources. This includes: tutoring/ one on one homework support, educational online games, reading comprehension and much more. This portion of the program is designed to supplement the lack of resources available in the public school systems and will give children and youth the opportunity to build educational confidence, which in turn results in higher grades, and overall success and achievement throughout the school year. •Our educational games will be designed to keep children and youths minds sharp, ready and encourage continuous learning throughout the year. The games will feature learning opportunities in a variety of different subject areas including reading, math, science, geography / social studies, history, cultural learning, social/emotional development, resiliency, creative arts and dramatic play. These Games will provide children a way to virtually develop a variety of different skills as well as provide your children with safe, productive and healthy screen time. 3. Emotional health and Well being: •The third portion of our program features an emotional health and well-being check-in system, that has been innovatively designed by BBYF, to capture important knowledge and understanding of children and youth well-being through our checking system. We constantly monitor the emotional health and well-being of the children and youth through our check-in and check-out surveys before and after the program. These short little surveys allow us to get a snapshot into how the children are feeling before they start the program and after. This helps us to identify any red flags or mental health issues that may need addressing. Children want to feel connected, seen and heard. By allowing them to express themselves in a safe and secure manner we are supporting their emotional health and well-being by providing tailored resources and support based on each child's individual needs. Our check-in system is a great way for parents to monitor, have and gain understanding of where their children are in regards to their well being, how they are feeling in regards to their emotional health and to help assess and identify any emerging issues that may be occurring. •We additionally offer preliminary assessments which are conducted by expert child psychologists, Early childhood Educators and family support workers who can provide parents tailored recommendations and referrals to the right support and resources needed for their children. We connect parents with needed resources, information and local services as well.
