Mission Statement

Street Cats of Regina Inc. is a no kill animal rescue dedicated to promoting the well-being of abandoned, stray, hurt, and feral cats in Regina and surrounding areas. Our goal is to control and maintain a healthy street cat population by employing a Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) strategy and by providing veterinary care, food, and shelter to street cats when possible. Most of our resources go toward rescuing, providing veterinary care including sterilizations, fostering and then finding loving homes for the cats we take in. We fundraise constantly to meet the needs of the cats in our care. We believe that each cat is valuable and deserving of our compassion and assistance. We advocate for the treatment of all animals and provide education on the importance of sterilization and the importance of T/N/R as an ethical and efficient animal management population strategy. We believe if a cat can be rehomed and off the streets, all efforts are made to ensure that happens. Our four purposes are (as outlined in our Articles of Incorporation): - To operate a trap-spay/ neuter-return (TNR) program in Regina, Saskatchewan and surrounding areas to humanely reduce the number of feral cats, - To maintain and manage feral cat colonies in their home environments through TNR and/or find alternative homes when necessary, - To provide veterinary care, sterilization, foster care and adoption services for homeless cats, (the majority of our money raised goes toward this purpose) - To educate the public on the benefits of TNR, and on the compassionate and humane treatment of animals as well as other information on cats in general.

About This Cause

Street Cats of Regina Inc. was incorporated as a nonprofit rescue in 2011. A small group of members sought to make a difference in the lives of stray, abandoned and hurt cats in our community and surrounding area. Over the years the group has grown in membership and volunteers but a fairly small, hardworking core group continues to drive the rescue. SCOR is guided by the Articles of Incorporation and the By Laws established in 2011. Senior members of the group carried out a T/N/R program, set up feeding stations where needed, fostered and rehomed cats. In addition they helped guide newly formed rescues in other communities, they rescued cats from outside the community, they helped with hoarding situations where cats were in jeopardy, they provided cat shelters where required, and they provided sterilizations in homes where it was not being done. A network of followers and volunteers has been established through our Facebook page. Presently 3.1 K followers encourage, support, and donate when emergencies arise. Since that time, SCOR has also set up a network of excellent foster homes who welcome cats in need into their homes and provide the love, care, and socialization required and SCOR provides the food, litter, and vet care for each cat. Litters are found abandoned in alleys or old sheds, on the side of the road or in people's yards. These fragile kittens are taken in and provided the necessary care until they are healthy, socialized and ready for a new home. Veterinary care is given to each cat/kitten that comes into our care and constant fundraising takes place to pay for these veterinary costs. (Some examples of fundraising are an online garage sale, 50/50, steak and pizza nights with silent auctions, and 50/50, contests, bottle drives, donation cans and, of course, we accept donations.) Once a cat is socialized and healthy, a loving home is found through private adoptions and through the help of Regina's Pet Depot, a pet store SCOR has worked with for several years. Adoptions are followed up to ensure the adoption was a good fit for both the family and the kitty. In March of 2023, Street Cats of Regina Inc. became a Registered Charity. As with changes in membership, status, and size, our focus has changed to accommodate the needs in our community. T/N/R (trap/neuter/release) and the feeding of cats in colonies has received less focus. The larger portion of our time, energy and funds goes toward rescuing, fostering, providing veterinary care, socialization, and the rehoming of as many cats as we have the foster space and funds to allow. It is rare that cats are returned to the streets unless it is the only alternative and in that case, shelters and food are provided in the region, often people's yards, where the cat dwells. SCOR cannot take in all cats as our responsibility is with the cats in our care and so decisions have to be made regarding cats most in need, ie emergency situations where a cat is injured or a litter is abandoned or a kitten is found alone in cold weather. As mentioned previously, the number of cats taken in is determined by the foster space available as well as the funds available to meet veterinary costs. Donations greatly support our rescue by helping to pay veterinary bills and in return, since gaining registered charity status, Street Cats of Regina Inc. can issue income tax receipts for donations over $20. SCOR is evolving and doing what we can, however the problem of cats on our streets remains urgent. We strive to educate, to create promotional materials and to make a difference. Any financial support will increase the difference Street Cats of Regina Inc. can make and we appreciate each and every donation given.
