About This Cause
Foundations for Social Change is a Vancouver-based charitable organization. Bound by our shared humanity, we stand for an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential. We work with people living on the margins to develop measurable solutions that are scientifically based and informed by lived experience. Our work is bold and innovative. We live the value of compassion and use data and evidence to evaluate our work and measure our impact. We believe that economic inclusion is critical to being able to participate in society and that no one should be left behind. This requires disrupting the status quo, and compels us to think radically and test innovative solutions that have not been tried before. For example, our New Leaf Project is the world’s first direct cash transfer project to empower people to move beyond homelessness in Canada. Specifically, we distributed a one-time cash transfer of $7,500 to people experiencing homelessness in Vancouver. While many would balk at the thought of disbursing large sums of cash to people living in homelessness, our approach is based upon scientific evidence not prejudice, and our bold action has paid off. Project participants have seen measurable improvements in their lives after receiving the cash transfer and we are passionate about expanding our work. Our work is grounded in community, and working shoulder-to-shoulder with people with lived experience ensures that our solutions are inclusive, relevant and impactful. We believe in the power of listening to voices unheard and that innovation ultimately relies on collaboration. We treat people not as passive recipients of charity, but as capable adults who desire and deserve a greater sense of agency to make their own decisions and chart the course of their own lives.
