Mission Statement
City Kidz is more than just an electric Saturday program; it's a mission with a purpose to transform the lives of inner-city children between the ages of 6 to 12, break the cycle of hopelessness and end child poverty through relationship building and plain old-fashioned fun!
About This Cause
CityKidz Ottawa has a completely free program for disadvantaged children ages 6-12 living in the Overbrook and Carlingwood Heights neighbourhoods. We endeavour to increase resiliency and inspire big dreams in children living in low-income communities by providing inspirational experiences and nurturing personal relationships, one child at a time. Nurturing their faith, dreams and self-esteem can break the cycle of poverty, which is our goal. CityKidz children and/or youth leaders: • Have access to programming through video from a website developed by our Hamilton Branch. • Receive socially distanced home visits. This includes playing some socially distanced games with our Fun Squad. • Get care packages filled with craft supplies • Had transportation costs covered to the Tall Ships Camp sailing from Kingston in July. • Participated in a Weekly Pizza Party Contest in July. • receive healthy snacks with each home visit. • Receive birthday gifts. • Receive a newly created newsletter specifically for their parents. Our adviser, Michelle Bentley, a registered family and child therapist, gives tips on coping with the pandemic. We believe this provides excellent parent support in times when they are feeling isolated and without help. • Get encouragement, support and programming through Zoom Video Conferencing (Youth Leaders). This has been an amazing success! The youth come away feeling encouraged and supported. It has been proven that CityKidz programming is bringing about compelling positive personal and social change. We have been independently and fairly evaluated. We are proud of our results.
