Mission Statement

The VSO School of Music serves a mission to create, curate, and connect irresistible musical experiences for all members of the community.

About This Cause

The VSO School of Music is a charitable music education and community performance institution located in Downtown Vancouver, first envisioned by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra's Music Director Emeritus, Bramwell Tovey; Honorary Life Vice President, Arthur H. Willms; and former President and CEO, Jeff Alexander. The VSO School of Music was created to provide a modern educational institution next to the Orpheum Theatre, where students of all ages, abilities, playing levels and circumstances could enjoy lifelong learning, and the majority of instructors would be members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. The school first opened its doors in 2011, and has been serving our community ever since in such genres as classical, jazz, chamber and global music, as well as music appreciation, composition, and theory.
