Vancouver Chinatown Foundation for Community Revitalization

Vancouver, British Columbia, V6A 1T6 Canada

Mission Statement

Founded in 2009 to honour a culture and community established in Vancouver more than one hundred years ago, the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation is dedicated to building a more resilient and inclusive community by promoting the wellbeing of those in need while preserving Chinatown's irreplaceable cultural heritage. To that end, we invest in projects that focus on lasting positive change such as affordable housing and cultural and economic development.

About This Cause

Our strategy to help revitalize this important neighbourhood, while preserving its unique cultural heritage, is based on three pillars: Physical Revitalization: We are committed to helping longstanding family associations preserve and rehabilitate their historic buildings. These heritage buildings are the physical legacy of early Chinese Canadian pioneers and their contribution to the building of our country. The Foundation is also committed to improving and increasing the supply of quality housing in Chinatown, particularly for seniors. Commercial Revitalization: We support and help build businesses that are consistent with the spirit of Chinatown. We believe an important component in attracting businesses is to make the streets of Chinatown clean, safe, and welcoming to visitors and families, We envision a vibrant community with a healthy mix of traditional Chinese businesses such as restaurants, meat shops, local groceries, and new shops that complement the natural evolution of Chinatown. Cultural Revitalization: Chinatown's irreplaceable cultural heritage is unique in Canada and makes it a top tourist destination. We support cultural facilities and programs that help share the story of Chinatown's history and cultural significance.
