Our mission is to enable less fortunate children in the developing world to realize their full potential by providing resources for education, medical care and basic needs.
About This Cause
Eyrie For The Children Foundation is a non-profit charity registered in Canada. The operation is supervised by different governmental departments. It submits annual reports to Canada Revenue Agency and other departments on its finance and activities. It is a secular organization with members from various age groups. 100% of the donations received by Eyrie are used for charity. The administrative costs, including the travelling expenses are paid for by the members and board directors. Since 2011, It provides more than 130 scholarships each year to the extreme poor children of two schools in eastern Nepal. The students come from the tribes of low castes. Most of their parents work in the local tea garden or as daily workers. Their family income can hardly sustain two meals a day, therefore education to them is more than a luxury. Most of them do not know their own official Nepalese language. In fact, all the graduates from the school are the first generation in their family to receive proper schooling. The combined effect of financial hardship and inbred caste culture makes the girls inferior to their brothers. To help eliminate this injustice, Eyrie reserves 50 percent of the scholarships to girl students. An unfortunate prevailing situation is the trafficking of girls who are tricked into prostitution in far-away places. With a proper education, those girls may be able to defend themselves against this evil condition. Eyrie also offers a small number of scholarships to the graduates who excelled academically to continue their study in higher education. The graduates find jobs other than as a laborer in the tea gardens. They become police officers, soldiers, office workers, school teachers etc. Some find their own way to continue higher education in the colleges. With the life-changing schooling received, they are in a better position to protect themselves. Each time during our visits to the schools, we asked the graduating grade 10 students to write an essay on their goal in life. Whatever they wish to become, one common goal stands out: To help their community and the poor. The schools effectively teach them the ethnic of a good citizen. In addition to providing scholarships, Eyrie supports orphanages in Kathmandu with its surplus fund. Eyrie appeals to different organizations to provide medicine and food for the poor in Nepal. In 2015, it raised relief fund for the Nepalese earthquake victims.
