About This Cause
The Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festivals [VKMF] are celebrating their 98th season of operation. From its founding by the Knights of Pythias (1923), and continued stewardship (1960) by the Kiwanis Club of Vancouver, VKMF has grown to become B.C.’s oldest and largest premier music education festival in the province and the fourth largest festival of its kind in Canada. In 2009, with continued support from the Vancouver Kiwanis Club, the VKMF became a separate Society. Each year, over 5,000 music students participate across four festival events: 1) school Jazz choirs and bands, 2) Concert bands and orchestras, 3) Choirs, and 4) the Solo and Small Ensemble festival which includes piano, strings, voice, brass, woodwinds, guitar, harp. The Festivals’ past, present and future are rooted in a common purpose: to inspire musical excellence in all participants.
