Mission Statement

Community Living Ontario advocates with people who have an intellectual disability, their families and member organizations, to create inclusive communities across Ontario. Community Living Ontario is a family-based association assisting people who have an intellectual disability and their families to lead the way in advancing inclusion in their own lives and in their communities. As a province-wide confederation, rooted in a strong network of individuals, families, friends, member organizations and community partners, it will be guided by, adhere to and strive to achieve its Goal and Vision in all its actions. Community Living Ontario advocates for promotes and facilitates the full participation, inclusion and citizenship of people who have an intellectual disability. To accomplish this mission, Community Living Ontario will: (i) Develop positions and promote positive change in public policy; 5 (ii) Provide expertise, resources, information and education; (iii) Create and respond to opportunities for networking, actively supporting and partnering with those who share our vision; (iv) Build public awareness; and, (v) Develop, nurture and support community leadership, capacity and innovation. (vi) Encourage and support family networks and family leadership.

About This Cause

The Community Living Ontario Foundation was created to develop resources that support Community Living Ontario's initiatives and expand our capacity to do this important work. We promote positive change through public policy and advocacy. We provide expertise and resources to decision-makers, educators, local members, families and self-advocates. We create public awareness and networking opportunities. We nurture community leadership, capacity and innovation. Community Living Ontario envisions an Ontario where everyone belongs, is valued, and has the freedom to live the life they choose. Our Initiatives: Advocacy, Research and Awareness Lead the way in advocating with people, families, and member organizations to change policy and remove barriers to inclusion. We work alongside people who have intellectual disabilities and their families as well as the government to shape public policy that is practical and progressive. Family Engagement Connect, support, and empower families. Recognizing that families played an essential role in sparking the Community Living movement, we continue to create opportunities for them to connect and drive the movement forward. Youth Outreach The goal is to ensure that youth who have an intellectual disability aren’t left behind and are authentically included. Mentorship Funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, Student Links is an opportunity for students (ages 14 to 21) who have an intellectual disability to explore ideas for their future after high school. Employment Ready, Willing & Able transforms and increases labour force participation of people who have an intellectual disability and those on the autism spectrum.
