Mission Statement

To increase awareness of how common colorectal cancer is today. To increase participation in screening programs to prevent colorectal cancer. To raise funds for charities that have a record in saving lives through promoting easy access to screening.

About This Cause

Bum Run was founded in 2012 by Dr. Ian Bookman, a Toronto gastroenterologist, with the mission to raise awareness of colorectal cancer screening and prevention. For 12 years, the Bum Run team has organized 5K walk/run events and raised more than $1,235,000 net for various colorectal cancer charity organizations. Our funds go toward colorectal cancer research, enhancing patient support programs for families living with colorectal cancer, and raising awareness of colorectal cancer screening and prevention. Canada has one of the highest colon cancer rates in the world, affecting 1 in 16 Canadians. If everyone got screened, 95% of deaths could be prevented. Bum Run's vision is for all Canadians to know how preventable and treatable colon cancer is so they may act to help protect themselves and their loved ones.
