Mission Statement

GeneSpark is a global charitable foundation, based in Canada, breaking new ground by accelerating drug discovery research to cure rare genetic disorders causing intellectual disability. Through GeneSpark's innovative model, funding is directed to high-impact, scalable research projects designed to more quickly realize life-changing outcomes for over 1 million children suffering from Intellectual Disability disorders.

About This Cause

GeneSpark funds high-impact, scalable research projects focused on drug discovery for rare genetic disorders causing intellectual disability in children. Using recent breakthroughs in genetic technologies, GeneSpark is able to test thousands of drugs, quickly and affordably, to identify effective new treatments. In many cases, these drug treatments have already received certain regulatory approvals, dramatically decreasing costs and shorten timelines towards delivering new drug therapies. Since founding in 2015, GeneSpark has: • Identified the first drug in history to demonstrate effectiveness in treating Kleefstra Syndrome in a lab environment • Funded top research facilities around the world • Launched an annual conference and education platform to support families affected by Intellectual Disability disorders GeneSpark funded research projects involve high throughput screens on specific drug libraries and your financial support will allow us to expand the number of drug compounds that can be tested and increase the likelihood that a life-changing treatment will be found. All researchers funded through GeneSpark work closely in this multi-strategy approach to drug development, sharing key data with one another along the way (typically a hurdle in drug development research. In this way, each project has been designed to ensure that the learnings and findings from each drug screen can be applied to numerous other Intellectual Disability disorders. In addition, GeneSpark offers a wide variety of educational materials to parents and caregivers. Through monthly webinars, digital materials and annual conferences, GeneSpark is able to empower patient families with critical information and offer much needed educational support.
