Mission Statement

To improve the quality of life of those affected by Parkinson’s disease through education, advocacy, and providing free medication and supportive services.

About This Cause

The World Parkinson’s Program is a Canadian not-for-profit charitable global organization, founded by world renowned Canadian neurologist, Dr. A.Q.Rana in 2014. Our core belief is that every individual with Parkinson’s disease should have access to medication, education and any other supportive services that will improve their quality of life regardless of where they are in the world. The supports we are providing will provide the following benefits to impoverished PD patients: • Free medications (to be administered by the WPP and provided by contributors); • Free educational materials in 22 various languages. • Free medical treatment (to be administered by the WPP and provided by contributors); • Exercise classes to be conducted by a qualified instructor provided at no charge to patients. Our efforts are expected to result in the delivery of over 1M tablets to over 500 PD patients in 17 countries around the globe, including (but not limited to) Canada, US, Ethiopia, Liberia, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Uganda, Cameroon, and Zambia. We continue to work closely with local pharmacies to ensure the local delivery of medication to PD patients, secured via a service agreement. These agreements ensure that adequate funding is provided to local pharmacies, so that they are able to fulfill our mandate. Our aim is to improve their quality of life, starting in the following areas: • Enabling PD patients to cope with the debilitating disease in their daily lives through medication and medical treatments. • Connecting rural communities to the information and developments around Parkinson’s Disease, through educational literature in their local languages. • Establishing community-based exercise programs to further improve the physical and mental health of PD patients. • Careful monitoring, evaluation and recording of the individual and communal impacts of our aid. The WPP will cover all administrative costs through donations received from individual donors and sponsoring individuals and organizations of our annual fundraiser gala and medical conferences (in cooperation with the College of Physicians and Surgeons Ontario. We are requesting support towards the costs of delivering and providing medication and educational materials and providing access to medical treatments.
