Building an Intercultural Community of Support - MFRS offers holistic support to refugee and newcomer families through cultural brokering programs that honour their unique challenges, hopes, and dreams.
About This Cause
Multicultural Family Resource Society (MFRS) aims to improve the well-being of immigrant and refugee children, youth, and families by offering holistic support that increases community connections and enhances knowledge, skills, and confidence. MFRS works alongside its sister organization, the Multicultural Health Brokers (MCHB), to offer unique cultural brokering support to address the poverty and exclusion many newcomers face. As a collaborative, intercultural community we lead in whole family (parent and youth) programming that nurtures a culture of belonging and well-being. Our approach embraces relational support for the whole family that is responsive to the complex conditions and contexts of each participant. Support programs include: PARENTING GROUPS that address the complex realities of parenting in two cultures; YOUTH GROUPS and GIRLS' PROGRAM that build confidence; Ethnocultural Sexual Health Education & Violence Prevention that is breaking the silence of taboo topics; ENGLISH for community integration; FAMILY Support Centre for Syrian & Arabic speaking families; EMERGENCY SUPPORT Fund for short term financial crisis during settlement.
