Mission Statement

The Imam Hussein Islamic Society (IHIS) of Edmonton is a charitable organization comprised of a diverse community of over 400 Muslims, the majority of whom are Farsi speaking families who reside in the City of Edmonton and the surrounding communities of Sherwood Park, St. Albert and Leduc. The guiding principles of the IHIS of Edmonton is to serve as a base to support the spiritual needs of the community as well as to promote the core Canadian values of equality, fairness and tolerance. The organization successfully carries out its own youth programs, library, religious and cultural activities, new-comers support and various other functions.

About This Cause

The community members that make up IHIS of Edmonton began congregating for major religious occasions in various rental halls in the mid- 2000’s. As of 2017, we have purchased a large facility that also served as the location for the Al Baqir Academy which is a K-12 religious charter school. Our membership is comprised primarily, but not exclusively, of Shia' Muslims of Iranian community. Today, our Centre successfully carries out religious and cultural programs, youth programs, library, wedding ceremonies and various other functions that are required for a grass-roots religious organization. Our goal is to continually improve our engagement and level-of-service in providing spiritual services from cradle to grave for the Iranian-Canadian and other Farsi speaking communities.
